Phaedra Daipha is currently a Postdoctoral Associate at the department, where she is to serve as an Assistant Professor starting September 2008. Her primary research interests lie at the intersection of the sociology of science and scientific knowledge, theory, and culture. Daipha’s major writing project is a book, tentatively titled Masters of Uncertainty: Weather Forecasters and the Quest for Ground Truth, that ethnographically explores the various negotiations entailed in producing the National Weather Service forecast with an eye toward developing a sociological theory of uncertainty management. She has written on the organizational structure of the discipline of sociology (The American Sociologist 2001). She is also interested in theories of the body, visual sociology, as well as the sociology of everyday life.
