Past workshops have inluded:
Fall 2007 Workshops:
Finding Data: a workshop on how to find and access quantitative data online. It will focus on ICPSR, but I'd love suggestions of other useful resources I should include. I don't think I'll have 3 hours worth of things to say, but am planning for a good period at the end for you to find your own data, during which I'll be available to help you. This will be particularly useful for those in Kristen Springer's stats course (mostly 2nd year students).
SPSS Basics: can't quite remember how to import data, recode a variable or run cross-tabs? This is the workshop for you. Bring your own data set if you have one.
Presenting Quantitative Data: We'll talk about how to present data in clear tables and charts, and look at examples of good and bad data presentation.
Making a Website: We'll begin at the very beginning (since I know less about this than you can imagine). Bring any content (text, files, images, etc) you know you want on a website, and we'll go through the process from making the page to getting it published in your university web space.
Bibliographic resources: We'll cover RefWorks, EndNote, Zotero, Web of Science (Social Sciences Citation Index), among others.
