After 20 years as a program officer in mental health services research at the National Institute of Mental Health, Ann Hohmann became a scientist-investigator in the Office of Research Integrity (ORI), which oversees and directs Public Health Service (PHS) research integrity activities on behalf of the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). Her primary responsibilities involve the oversight and evaluation of investigations into research misconduct conducted by institutions seeking or awarded PHS research funds. Along with her colleagues, Hohmann develops and recommends, to the ORI Director, findings of research misconduct; proposes administrative actions against those who have committed misconduct; assists the attorneys in the Office of the General Counsel (OGC) to prepare and present cases in hearings before the Research Integrity Adjudications Panel of the DHHS Department Appeals Board; and provides information on DHHS policies and procedures, as requested, to individuals who have made an allegation or have been accused of research misconduct.
