Dr. Shaw is a sociologist who has been doing primary care health services research since graduating from Rutgers. He joined the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey in 2003 as a qualitative researcher and facilitator for an National Institutes of Health-funded clinical trial. With a faculty appointment in 2006, he took on the role of project director for a National Cancer Institute-funded study aimed at increasing colorectal cancer screening rates in primary care practices. He has also collaborated extensively with primary care researchers at the University of Colorado Health Science Center. He has published various articles on quality improvement in healthcare, primary care organizational change, and aspects of patient experiences. In 2012, he joined Mercer University where he is currently involved with educating medical students and training/mentoring residents and clinical faculty on doing research.
