Colleen Nugent obtained an MA in counseling psychology from the University of Minnesota and worked in counseling/advising in higher education before pursuing an MA in sociology from Boston College and a PhD in sociology from Rutgers University. Areas of interest include family structure and fertility, gender, social psychology, health/mental health, and methodological topics. She is currently a health scientist at the National Center for Health Statistics (CDC) working on the National Survey of Family Growth. She works on various aspects of survey production, and research projects that range from brief NCHS-based reports to in-depth articles in peer-reviewed journals. She also engages in collaborative research with faculty at the Rutgers Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research.
