We are deeply saddened to share the tragic news that Jason Phillips, a Ph.D. candidate in the Rutgers Sociology department, passed away last week.
Jason was about to defend his dissertation and assume a position as a postdoctoral diversity fellow in urban policy and inequality at Temple University's Department of Sociology.
Jason was a superb student and a promising scholar. He will be awarded his Ph.D. posthumously in recognition of his outstanding graduate work and path-breaking dissertation. His death represents an enormous loss to our department and discipline. We will miss him terribly.
We extend our thoughts and condolences to Jason's family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 29 beginning at 12 p.m. at Caribe Funeral Home, 1922 Utica Avenue, Brooklyn, N.Y.
