Mahasti Hashemi received her B.A. in Economics from National University of Iran, her M.A. in Economics from Columbia University, and Ph.D. in Sociology from Rutgers University. Her areas of research are Race, Ethnicity, Gender and Migration. She has presented her research on Asian American women in the U.S. at the American Sociological Association, the National Women’s Studies Association, and Eastern Sociological Society. Her book, Contested Identities: Iranian Women in the United States was published in 2009. She has held her recent position at the School of Arts and Sciences, Honors Program at Rutgers University, since 2007.
