SOCIOLOGY is the scientific study of human social life, groups, and societies.

Sociology faculty pursue cutting-edge research in the areas of culture, gender, inequality, health and aging, population, politics, globalization, economic life, crime, the environment, tecnhnology, and social networks.

We invite you to make a gift and make a difference to Sociology students and faculty by supporting our Sociology Gift Fund:

Contributions to the Sociology Gift Fund benefit the following initiatives:

  • Graduate Student Support
Support undergraduate and graduate students by providing travel stipends and awards for exceptional teaching and research. Awards include honors for outstanding theses, dissertations, and publications, and travel funds to facilitate student research presentations at professional conferences.
  • Undergraduate Internship Opportunities
Foster the development of our internship program for undergraduate students who hope to gain professional experience in sociology or related social sciences. Funds will be used to support students, offset financial costs (e.g. transportation costs to and from a site among other options), promote the program, and identify opportunities for our students.
  • Intellectual Community
Help sustain departmental activities and initiatives, including seminars, distinguished visiting scholar symposia, technology enhancement, and small pilot grants to encourange new and innovative research. We also hope to launch a new public lecture series, where our graduate students and faculty share their work with the community beyond Rutgers.

You can support this program by making a secure online donation.

Our vision for the future includes the establishment of new endowed professorships and graduate student fellowships to enhance our ability to recruit the best faculty and graduate students to our program.
