Doctoral Student
- Sofia Wyszynski
Prior to joining Rutgers, Sofia Wyszynski earned a B.A. in Sociology from Columbia University and an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies from New York University. Her research centers on biomedicalization, the sociology of the body, and queer theory, with a particular focus on how medical technologies, health insurance systems, and clinical practices shape access to bodily transformation and reproduce social inequality. Drawing on her own experiences as a bariatric patient, she is interested in how lived experience can inform sociological understandings of embodiment, stigma, and medicalization.
